Saying
goodbye to our daughter and leaving her in care of strangers was the
hardest thing we ever did. I
asked, “if not now, when?” It took her a lifetime to be where she
was. We were willing to go
the distance to give her and our family the time we needed to heal.
Adoption issues and an eating disorder had shattered my beautiful
daughter’s view of herself and life. Our marriage was in trouble.
Today it is stronger than it ever was.
My heart danced when she hugged me then looked in my eyes and
said, “I love you.”
A year ago, we felt we would be soon be arranging her funeral.
Before long, we will be celebrating her graduation.

I
saw my son’s struggles when he started kindergarten.
Reports of being the class clown, not paying attention, outbursts
of anger. He was diagnosed
with ADHD in the 5th grade. Between 5th and 7th
grades and two years of medication ups and downs, his behavior became
out of control. Failing
grades, drug abuse and defiance controlled our every day life.
I researched, asked for alternatives and found nothing that
offered what he needed. To make
matters worse, everything I found in my State required that he agree to
go and stay. When
I found this Program, it was out of desperation that I admitted him
against his will.
Soon I realized that it was more than I had ever prayed for.
Since he’s been home he’s achieved many goals that he never thought he
could...and all without
medication! The biggest change, however, is his love of life and himself.
The "whole person" approach of this Program, not only for him, but our
entire family, has given us a future I never dreamed possible four years
ago. Back

Before
I entered the Program, my life was about my friends, drugs and my image.
I was always fighting with my parents and doing lots of stuff
they didn’t even know about. I knew, deep down, that I deserved more.
I never completed anything in my life!
I love my family so much for staying strong and committed.
They never gave up on me, not once.
For all you parents that love your kids enough to give them a new
chance, thank you!

After
month’s of denial, thinking it would be better “tomorrow”, we
realized that if we didn’t intervene immediately, our son might not
have that tomorrow. We lived with guilt and shame,
pretending our lives were wonderful.
The hardest part was admitting that he needed more than we,
alone, were able to give him. . The once arrogant and angry child we
admitted to this Program is now a mature and exceptional young man who is
impacting others in a powerful way.
We’ve thanked him for giving US the “gift” of the Program,
including the seminars and family support groups and our family coach!
It didn’t end the day he came home!

I
was told that my son would be in and out of therapy the rest of his
life! His anger and behavior was beyond my control.
I feared what he would do next.
He had been in three other Programs over the course of 2 years,
and, though he seemed to be doing better, it didn’t take long to
revert to old behaviors. Filing incorrigibility would be giving up and giving in to
his behavior. I was ready
to do whatever it took to give him an opportunity to find an inner
peace. It may seem
like a miracle to some, but with the help of many wonderful people, and
a commitment to himself, he’s been home for 3 years being true to
himself.

New friends, drugs, anger,
cutting...I no longer knew my daughter.
She shut me out of her life and I didn't know where to turn. I was
watching a T.V. show about teens and drugs and I realized I was no
longer talking with my daughter, I was talking with the drugs.
When I heard the person on this show. say "don't let another sun set on
another day before taking action," I felt he was talking directly
to me. It was the wake up call I needed. I never considered a
residential program until I recently while I was watching Brat Camp, a
wilderness program show for troubled teens. When I was
searching the internet, I found many programs that offered help for
troubled teens, but I knew she needed more than the short term "feel
good" of a wilderness program. When I spoke to the people at the
schools that Arizona Teen Crisis Solutions refers to, and later to teens
that had been there, I felt in my heart this was the right thing to do.
I can now sleep at night knowing my daughter is safe and getting the
long term result help she needs. I feel it's been the best investment in
our family and her life I could ever make.
